The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) invites you to attend the SHEA Spring 2013
Conference to be held May 1-4, 2013 at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis in Atlanta, Georgia.
The SHEA Spring 2013 Conference is a hybrid of the traditional SHEA/CDC Training Course in Healthcare Epidemiology - our long-standing 'basic training' course - coupled with advanced educational offerings covering practical issues in infection prevention and hospital epidemiology.
The 'Surveillance: Beyond the Basics' track will be offered concurrent to the Training Course. This track will be valuable to young faculty as well as experienced epidemiologists and advanced infection preventionists. The surveillance track addresses the current complexities of surveillance, including: practical aspects and challenges of surveillance in the era of public reporting, alternate-site surveillance, evaluation and use of monitoring/reporting software, public health tracking, electronic-surveillance, future directions and much more.
The conference closes with a prominent leadership meeting that focuses on the role of the inanimate healthcare environment in HAI transmission entitled 'The Role of the Environment'. Some of the topics covered include an exploration of the importance of surface contamination and fomites in cross-transmission of MDROs, transmission of nosocomial pathogens by air and water, best practices for measuring environmental cleanliness, how to evaluate new technologies for disinfecting the environment, and whether resistance to antiseptics and disinfectants is an emerging threat.
Target Audience
This conference is designed for physicians, infection preventionists, healthcare epidemiologists, infectious disease specialists, microbiologists, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals interested in healthcare epidemiology, infection prevention, surveillance, research methods, patient safety, environmental issues and quality improvement.
