这本书一直被临床微生物学界捧为“圣经”。国外许多临床微生物学专著，都把这部书列为重要的参考文献。这本书对临床微生物学检验方法、所用设备、试剂、微生物分类、细菌学、病毒学、真菌学和寄生虫学中的国际最新进展及时进行了介绍。许多学者以通读这部专著作为自己人生的一种追求。这本书每四年修改再版，及时向学界展示该学科领域中的进展全貎。
我们从2011年开始接触这部书，一直把她当作自己的案头书。至今我的办公桌上还摆着这本书的第10版。在SIFIC中再次推荐这本书的第11版中，意在及时让大家知道临床微生物学的研究进展情况。
