大年初三上班的收获:亲身感受美国老板学术严谨的氛围
本帖最后由 老朽 于 2012-1-26 14:01 编辑今天是大年初三,正常到UCLA临床微生物室上班,上午看了一下昨天所做的MIC结果。继续准备今天的菌株鉴定和MIC测定工作,菌株量较大,我低头忙碌着。边上一群人在开会,估计是讨论新药临床试验的方法。过了一会儿,一位很有气质的老太太彬彬有礼地走到我边上,做了自我介绍,可惜我当时没有注意听(刚来美国时间不长,对外国人名还不太敏感,记起来还蛮有难度的)。问了一下我所做的实验内容,然后建议我增加纸片法检测药敏。我觉得对研究内容还是很有帮助的,也觉得增加了很好。
后来老太太仔细地寻问我菌株是不是单克隆转种出来的,其实我用的菌株第一天转出来已经很纯了,并且所有的菌株又进行了第二次转种,即两次转种,基本可以肯定是单克隆菌株了。老太太还是把我转种两次的原始平板拿出来一块一块地核实,当时就深深佩服这位老太太的学术严谨性。她还把临床微生物室的副主任叫过来一起讨论这个学术问题。后来,边上的工作人员,这位老太太是美国CLSI的重量级专家及主要成员
接着,考虑到我在UCLA实验室还没有做过纸片扩散法的实验,老太太亲自帮我准备了所有的药敏纸片,并示范了如何做药敏试验。UCLA的药敏试验与国内最大的区别是,国内往往用的是90mm的平板进行药敏,而他们常规用的是150mm的平板做药敏试验。我的手算比较大的了,抓那么大的平板还是略有困难的。回想一下,纽约汤一苇教授用的也是150mm的药敏平板。更为重要的一个细节是,老太太专门拿来了ATCC的质控菌株,说一定要同步做药敏质控。在国内,理论上大家也知道要做药敏质控,但说实话,完全按规范严谨操作的实验室并不多。并拿出了说明书,告诉我一些相关的实验细节。
一个小小的药敏试验,折射出的是这位老太太严谨的科学研究的态度。
这位老太太到底是谁呢,我也不确定,明天悄悄地去找听一下。

老太太是老板!!标题了有了{:1_12:} 在这一点上,我们的确应该好好学习他们严谨的科学态度。 这个老太太严谨的工作作风值得我们学习。同志们啊,我们在工作中能否严谨一点?不要凡事凭经验,在工作中多动脑、多动手,也许我们能得出最佳的结果。希望大家多把时间花在工作上,如果我们每个会员通过自己辛勤的工作,能对感控学科的发展,提出一个好的问题,这可是大的进步啊!细菌耐药和蓝鱼两位在这方面做得很好,我们应该向他们两位学习。如果我们大家都有这样的工作态度,我想SIFIC就会有大的发展。 这位老太太就是著名的Janet Hindler教授,我在网上检索到了她的简历,她为全球的临床微生物学,特别是抗生素药敏试验方面做出了大量贡献!
Janet F. Hindler, MCLS, MT (ASCP)
Janet Hindler is the Senior Specialist in Clinical Microbiology at UCLA Medical
Center in Los Angeles, California. She has written and taught extensively on the
topic of antimicrobial susceptibility testing and has over 30 years of experience
as a clinical microbiologist.
Ms. Hindler is a member of the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI)
Subcommittee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing and is lead author of the
CLSI publication “Analysis and Presentation of Cumulative Antimicrobial
Susceptibility Test Data; Approved Guideline—Third Edition (M39-A3)” in February
2009. Ms. Hindler has served in various positions with the American Society of
Microbiology and is currently Chair of the Sherago-Rubin Selection Committee.
She has served as a consultant to the World Health Organization and assisted in
teaching individuals in developing countries about antimicrobial susceptibility
testing and antimicrobial resistance. One of Ms. Hindler’s primary professional
goals is to provide antimicrobial susceptibility testing information to clinical
